While some see the new year as an opportunity to kickstart some new life goals, it’s also a great time to bag a bargain.

With the Black Friday and Boxing Day shopping bonanzas behind us, we’ve got eyes on the January sales, which see many of our favourite retailers, including John Lewis & Partners to Boots and Currys, Asos, Very and Argos slashing their prices.

If you’re looking to ease those January blues with a spot of retail therapy, we’ve got the pick of the best deals on everything from a new mattress, pair of headphones and Nintendo Switch consoles to make-up and trainers.

Need a new sofa? This January sale deal is unmissable

If your plans for January consist of spending time on the sofa getting through Netflix, then you need to invest in a new settee. This one landed the top spot in our guide to the best sofa in a box, with our writer noting that if you’re after a “deep, cosy sofa you can curl up in of an evening, look no further than the big chill”. As for its style, they wrote that “the slight boxiness of the chunky arms and high back give this sofa a super-chic look”, adding that “it’s a great all-rounder that will work with any décor scheme”.

Currys slashes the price of Dyson’s cordless vacuum

Usually priced just shy of £600, this saving of £160 is well worth snapping up. We compared this with the V7 absolute cordless vacuum cleaner, and our reviewer said the “V11 no doubt has the edge”. They noted “you won’t have to shed out for another vacuum cleaner of any kind as it does a first-class job – as good as any corded model – even in larger homes.” Seemingly a one-size-fits-all Dyson, it’s a perfect January bargain.

The best Theragun deal we’ve seen in the January sales

If you’re starting the new year off with a little fitness kick, you’re going to need one of these.

While there is an upfront cost of £69 on the 128GB pro model, you still get unlimited texts, calls and fast 5G data. Plus, you’ll also receive three months of Apple TV when you seal the deal. In our iPhone 13 pro review, our in house expert praised the new camera, saying “the swathe of photographic improvements alone are worth upgrading for, made possible by a faster processor and better camera sensors”.

Apple’s AirPods pro earbuds are just £189 right now

Listen up: Apple is notorious for not taking part in sales, but you’re likely to find competitive prices from third party retailers in the January sales. Case in point on the tech giant’s popular earbuds.

These earbuds are pretty pricey but, thanks to Amazon’s January sale, you can snap them up for a fraction of the cost. When we reviewed the Airpods pro, our tester said they “are a high-end pair of earphones that are difficult to find much fault in”. As for the noise quality, our tester added that “it’s a sound topped by few rivals,” with an impressive active noise-cancelling function that shuts out ambient noise. The AirPods pro also come with Apple’s new MagSafe wireless charging case, released in October.

It also got “10 out of 10 from us on breathability, comfort and support, being just slightly firmer than medium”. It really is “a brilliant all-rounder”.

Peloton’s January sale deal will put you in a spin

The New York-based fitness company has taken the world by storm thanks to its high-tech at-home spin bikes, which are loved by the likes of Barack and Michelle Obama and Leonardo DiCaprio. And now for Black Friday, it has launched a rare sale that means you can get the all-new Peloton bike+ (was £2,295, now £2,025, Onepeloton.co.uk) for less.

When it comes to Peloton, stellar deals are hard to come by – but the price of the brand’s bike+ has now been slashed by £270. Featuring in our review of the best exercise bikes, our tester appreciated its large screen size, “so you can feel more involved in whatever class you’ve decided on”, while the boosted surround sound offered “ear munching volume and clarity”. The exercise classes have also been praised when we reviewed the Peloton previously.

If you’ve got a (very) furry friend at home, this upright model from Shark could be just the thing. Said to suck up pet hairs from stairs to sofas and curtains, it can also be transformed into a portable vacuum, thanks to its Lift-Away Technology.

This means you’ll no longer be lumbered with the whole machine, say, if you needed to clean the stairs or under low-lying furniture. Though we haven’t tested this exact model, two of the brand’s vacuums earned a spot in our best pet vacuum cleaners review, so we’d say you’re in good hands.

Amazon’s daily Kindle deals are not to be missed. And we’ve just spotted that Meg Mason’s Sorrow and Bliss has been reduced to just 99p. The title took the top spot in our guide to the best fiction books of 2021, with our writer noting that it’s “an exciting, funny, and thought-provoking novel” that they “pressed on friends, family, people who were vaguely near our bookcases at the time”. “We guarantee you won’t notice the time passing,” they added.
